Northland

Text written in: English

We left auckland, Sue at the wheel of our 4 birth camper van, gwyn as navigator and me and Chrissy playing kids in the back! Oh and taking photos too!!! We headed up the east coast, to our first night at Ocean Beach! We could go where and do what we wanted! After a cloudy sunrise we had a walk on the beach before heading north again stopping at Kawati Caves. There we had a tour through the caves from a local Mauri who told us the history and amazed us all by switching the light off and letting us see the many glow worms filling the roof of the cave! Incredible!

From there we continued up to the bay of islands where we took a 4 hour boat ride out into the bay surrounded by islands covered in lush green fields and forests. The turquiose water also played host to bottlenosed dolphins who were kind enough to put on a show for us at the bow of the boat!

We visited the hole in the rock (a big home through an island at sea) where the brave lady steering the ship took us through it with only 8ft on either side and a strong swell and current coming through it! We also went for a walk on one of the islands and took photos of each other jumping off a bench. All backed by endless sights of islands, blue water and lush green fields.
