The sights in Melbourne

Text written in: English

Been doing a fair amount of sightseeing in the city in the past week and a half. Here are the pictures I've accumulated.

Photos / videos of "The sights in Melbourne":

Bay Street, right near the volunteer house. Lined with small shops, bars and cafes and a five minute walk to the beach. Federation Square, quite possibly the ugliest complex of buildings I've ever seen. Scary to think they spent millions on this. St. Paul's Cathedral on Flinder's St Flinder's St. Station Another shot of Flinder's St station Swanston St City Square downtown. It's odd....seeing Christmas decorations when it's warm and sunny out an art deco building Melbourne Town Hall Collins St., the city's high end shopping precinct Collins St again, I think The Old Treasury Building Fitzroy Gardens with Parliament in the background in the Treasury Gardens. Recognize the face on the monument? It's JFK, and I have absolutely no idea why Old Windsor Hotel Parliament Chinatown Bourke St Mall the Block Arcade Flinders St Station from the South bank of the Yarra River The Queen Victoria Market; the locals just call it the Vic Market Royal Botannical Garden Royal Botannical Garden Royal Botannical Garden Royal Botannical Garden Royal Botannical Garden a better shot of Parliament the trams are decked out in Christmas colors part of the Old Melbourne Gaol The Second Cell Block of the Old Melbourne Gaol....spooky. Over 100 people were hanged here. the door to one of the cells the interior of one of the cells. I could barely extend both arms and not touch the walls some of the implements used to isolate and punish prisoners a phrenology map of the head. Only a psych major could appreciate this another shot of the cell interior this is the original trap door used in hanging prisoners. The prisoner would stand on the door with the noose around his neck. When the trap door was opened...that's it. The death mask of Ned Kelly....Australia's biggest folk hero. Crazy Aussies Ned Kelly's gun Ned Kelly's armor. Too bad it didn't cover his legs or arms, cuz that's how the cops eventually caught him prisoners would be strapped to this thing when they were being flogged Royal Melbourne Exhibition Center Melbourne has this thing about hideous buildings This really amused me. It would have been a shame not to take a photo Polly Woodside From the 55th floor of the Rialto Towers. The big gray building in the Melbourne Convention Center the Yarra River Flinders St Station close up of Federation Square....still ugly Melbourne Cricket Ground. This is a holy site among Aussie sports fans That's the Telstra Dome and the Docklands. I thought this was cool. There's a road race every year up the steps to the top of the Rialto Tower. Good marathon training.
